Numerical and experimental investigation on a downhole gas-liquid separator for natural gas hydrate exploitation

Natural gas hydrate (NGH) is widely considered as an alternative energy source due to its tremendous reserves, cleanness and high density. During the exploitation process, discharging gas-liquid phase surface for separation not only affects pump performance but also increases space requirements of offshore platform. Taking NGH production test data in South China Sea example, a downhole spiral separator designed ratio (liquid content less than 10%) this paper. The forces droplets are analyzed CFD model two flow established. RNG k-ε turbulence used analyzing velocity field distribution pressure separator. influence structure parameters (pitch, cycle number piece, outer diameter pipe) scale on investigated. loss sharply after scaling some necessary measures should be taken avoid generation sale secondary hydrate.
